United Nations' targeted Zim Sanctions vetoed by China -- so no Olympics for me then

It is clear the talks about talks between so-called Zim leaders and Zim MDC are not going anywhere, just as Russia decided that political tit for tat was a good enough reason to play hostage with the lives of the people of Zimbabwe.

As a result of China joining in the United Nations veto game, I have decided not to watch the Olympics. Please join me in this campaign and write to your local Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to tell them so.

I have copied my letter to Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Kingdom, Madam Fu Ying, below. I hope to write something similar for the Russian Ambassador when I have worked out how to manage without Russian energy, but probably before I learn how to live with lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome.

Your Excellency Madam Fu Ying,

I am a teacher in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, where I live with my family.

First, I would like to say how much I have always valued the cultural and educational opportunities to learn more about China and the Chinese way of life that have come my way. Second, I congratulate the great progress that your government has made in bringing wealth and well-being to so many of your people. I believe these are both good things. Third, I am with regret to discuss a matter you will understand is contentious. I hope that in so doing you appreciate I am not one who holds his own country to be entirely free of blame in this respect. We have made mistakes and I regularly hold my politicians to account for their actions and decisions. Sometimes I like what they tell me and sometimes I don't. That is how it goes.

Sadly this last week I have been distressed by the decision of the United Nations not to impose targeted sanctions on Robert Mugabe nor on the top 13 of the military junta or criminal cabal controlling Zimbabwe in July 2008. I found this distressing for several reasons not the least of which were millions of Zimbabwean people starving, the complete inability of the so-called leaders of that country to do anything about it, and the fact that such a marvellous opportunity to help the people of Zimbabwe had been lost by the United Nations.

As a result, I cannot in good conscience watch the Olympics this year. That also is a sadness to me. I would like to be able to say what a good thing the People's Republic of China are doing -- because it is a good thing. But while some are saying that Chinese interest in Zimbabwe is to defend the indefensible I have to do what I believe Jesus is asking me to do, just as I stated at the beginning of this paragraph.

Yours faithfully,

Jocelyn E. Chappell

Boycott the summer games!

I so support your decision! I am boycotting all media coverage. Have you seen this BBC News report ?

Re: Boycott the summer games!

Thank you, Welcome Guest, for your valued support. I had seen a copy of the BBC coverage news implicating Chinese government in Sudan, but thank you anyway for noting the fact conveniently here.

You might be interested to know I have setup a facebook cause, 'Persuade Chinese government to increase respect for human rights'. It would be great to massively bump up the numbers there as I believe the Chinese government is a little sensitive to public opinion while so much publicity is heading its way. Also I include a couple of links from that cause here.
