Just in case anyone thinks that unity is just about to break out in Zimbabwe I have collected some of today's Zim news with a prayer request.
Remember what I am quoting appeared in the news today. I left out plenty. Today is possibily worse than yesterday. I will be sadder still but no more surprised if tomorrow is worse. There is a request for prayer at the end of this note that I have adapted from the Barnabas fund. The Barnabas fund send food and other helpful resources under the protection of the Holy Spirit to places like Zimbabwe.
- Deadly violence intensifying: Zimbabwe opposition
There were 89 state sanctioned extra judicial killings of opposition officers between the election that Tsvangirai won on 29 March 2008 and the sham election 27 June 2008. Since then there have been an additional 20 state sanctioned extra judicial killings of opposition officers to root out the opposition. Justice Minister Chinamasa appealed by way of the Zim-state-run-Herald-newspaper, "to foreigners and external forces to leave the resolution of the Zimbabwe situation to Zimbabweans alone." Trouble is every time this justice minister speaks on this matter more people are murdered. It seems like cause and effect really -- which would be to say blackmail. - Fears grow for the safety of abducted MDC MP for Buhera South
In this case the state has abducted one of its own MPs -- a lawyer taking a lunchtime break outside court -- and nobody knows where he is except he is not defending ths innocent, nor taking his seat in parliament and he may turn up dead like the others. - Robert Mugabe thugs raid refugee camp
Since the sham election 27 June 2008 some 200 refugees appealed for refuge camping outside the American Embassy. Arrangements were made for their safety under the protection of an International Red Cross camp and with South African guarantee of safety. You can imagine that clothes, any sort of clothes are not easy to come by in Zimbabwe at the moment with the current economic situation. So when you hear a dozen or so men in army uniform and some balaclavas went in and atacked people sleeping in squash courts with terrible screams it is easy to believe Mugabe has indeed turned the weapons of the state on his own people. - Mugabe to eliminate MDC before August is out
Apparently the sick state plan, despite talks about talks, is to murder opponents and to swallow up the rest in a government of national unity (sic). - G8 leaders turn on Mbeki over Zimbabwe failure
I've lost count literally of the number of reports from Zimbabweans and South Africans who have lost the plot with both their countries' presidents.
Please pray for the people of Zimbabwe, after the sham presidential election on 27th June. They face increasing hunger and hardship as well as yet still more growing political violence and intimidation. Pray that God will raise up a righteous and just ruler for this country. Pray that Zimbabwean Christians, who have been one of Mugabe`s many targets, will be salt and light in their country at this time of immense suffering. Pray for the protection of all those trying to feed the hungry.
