Aylesbury LIFE because Learning Is For Everyone

I was really pleased to see Edwina Hart, Health Minister for Wales, has decided to give free health care to failed asylum seekers. I don't know if Edwina is a person of faith but the decision she has taken reflects both core Christian values and also those of other major faiths.

Secular politicians who disagree with Edwina use the slogan "health tourism" which I find abhorrent. It comes from the same dictionary as "economic migrant". It was a former Prime Minister (Conservative as it happens) who told the unemployed to "get on their bike". I am not sure I liked the clear implications at the time but frankly if that "bike" has travelled from Wigan or Bangalore it makes no difference to me.

Perhaps a better way forward for the sloganeers is to recognise the global and structural inequalities in the world for what they are and to do something about them, the Millenium Development Goals for example.
